History

Before the establishment of the settlement, the territory used to be a rural and forest land called ‘Biliza’ – an Albanian word meaning winds or source of winds.

In the late 1940’s, the settlement was founded by the association ‘Macedonia S.A.’ as a residential, semi-rural area for the settlement of Athens dwellers of Macedonian and Thracian origin.

The community plan was designed based on a model plan created by the eminent architect and town planner Constantinos Doxiadis. The circular layout of the town encompasses wide roads, green spaces, squares, a shopping centre, education spaces as well as infrastructures, that is public utilities, such as electricity, water and telephone networks. Each and every plot of land covers a designated area of 1,000 sqm.
